This may be the most egotistical thing I will ever write, well here goes anyway.

After carefully looking for domain names for this site – something catchy, something straight to the point, memorable etc, I settled on the name you see at the top of this blog. Great I thought, just the title – not too Web 2.o, personal and engaging, just like I hope my posts will be…….I’m gonna be sick.

Then I got an email from my cousin Ben (a website entrepeneur) who loved the website but thought I’d made a basic mistake. Don’t give a website a name that can be easily misspelled. Jhonnies – Jonnies – Jhonnys -  aaaaaaaarrrgh.   Jonny.   I often get called John on the presumption that Jonny is a lengthened John, in fact it’s a less formal sounding Jonathan.

I happen to like my name and can’t think of too many Jonny’s I dislike, whereas Depp, Knoxville, Rotten, Vegas and Wilkinson are generally top blokes.

Another reason I like my name is because people sing to me. All the time. Jonny used to work on the docks and Jonny, we’re sorry, won’t you come on home, being my favourites. When walking into a group someone has to say the obligatory – “Heeeeeeeeere’s Jonny” which can be great or annoying as hell depending on my mood or the person quoting murdering The Shining. I also get the standard condom / rubber gags. Comedy genius.

Never mind -guess I’m stuck with both for a while – at least it’s not as bad as these or these.

I’d love to hear about other peoples real name or domain name stories / problems in the comments.

Jonny :)
